Logistics • Wednesday, March 9 in Physics 203 • Maximum time 90 minutes • Start times at 6:30, 7:00, or 7:30PM • Wait outside of the room at selected start time for seating instructions • No class meeting on Wednesday, March 9 2. Format of the Exam • 4 - 5 problems each of which may have multiple (related) parts • One problem directly from assigned and graded homework • Questions similar to homework problems • 50 - 60% direct questions involving some type of calculation (like Part I homework) • 40 - 50 % proof-oriented problems (like linear algebraic Part II homework) • At least 1 problem to prove a statement that is definitely true • At least 2 open proof questions: if “yes” prove it; if “no” provide a counterexample • All questions will be linear algebraic, but familiarity with basic logic, set theory, and the method of proof by induction will be assumed 3.
