Iran Williams June 3, 2011 Checkpoint: Mental Health Service Professions The mental health profession offers a lot of different positions that work together in order to provide adequate care to the mentally ill. The two mental health professions that were chosen are mental health aide and social worker. Though the positions are very different, they work together in order to work toward a common goal. As a mental health aide, the training, level of education and other qualifications are needed in order to make sure that the worker is trained properly for the position. Some education beyond high school is required. Certificate or associate degree in subjects such as human services, gerontonology or one of the social or behavioral sciences are adequate for the position as a mental health aide. The other qualifications consists of a strong desire to help others, effective communication skills, sense of responsibility, ability to manage time effectively, patience, and understanding (bls.gov).
