Iran Williams Checkpoint: Hospitals May 20, 2011 Car wreck, high fever, or woman in labor, are just a few examples of different situations that require hospitalization. Many times people use the hospitals and do not even realize what type of hospital it is. Hospitals are generally categorized as nonprofit, for-profit, or governmental. Non-profit hospitals work with their communities to improve their community members’ health through education, preventative services and community benefit initiatives (premierinc.com). For-profit hospitals are owned and operated by a or an individual that operate on a for-profit basis, also referred to as investor-owned hospitals (medconditions.net). Government hospitals are administered by officials of the city, county, state, or nation (drugs.com). Each hospital type is different and they also have similar qualities. The populations being served by each type of hospital is different and the services that they provide vary from one to another. An example of a non-profit
