Developing a Thesis Statement There is no security in social security. Social Security was originally for retired workers, and to protect them against poverty, and ridden age. The Social Security Act of 1935 was not intended to be a main source of income. Social Security Act of 1935 was created by Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1935. This act provided payment for a lifetime for retired workers starting at the age of 65. The Social Security Act seeks out to give some protection to the average citizen against poverty, and ridden age. Benefits for the program were not intended to be a main source of income. Social Security has become retirement for many Americans today. Two years after Social Security was put into place the Federal Insurance Act known as FICA required workers to pay taxes were 2%. In 1939 Social Security expanded, and covered dependents and survivors. In 1950 coverage expanded outside commerce, and industry. In 1956 Disability Insurance expanded, and woman could retire early as 62 years of age. In 1961 early retirement was available to men at 62 years of
