Firewalls 1 Firewalls IT242 Firewalls are a fundamental aspect of modern networking, without a firewall your system is at risk of being exploited. Firewalls are sets of hardware and software which are used together to create a filter that only lets authorized traffic pass from an outside network into the firewall protected network. Firewalls are a key aspect of network security which keeps useless, unwanted and dangerous traffic from penetrating past the firewall server. This action alone helps to keep the personnel in the company that use workstations from worrying about email viruses and other manually spread infections. This in it self is a huge plus for any business because down time and surprise infections can devastate a company financial, especially if the company depends on IT to conduct business.
