Fitness Information According to a national program called “Physical Best” in which I have become certified this year, there are two types of fitness components: health related and skill related. To increase health benefits, include cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength and endurance and flexibility activities in your daily routines. To increase skills, focus on activities that improve agility, speed, power, balance, and coordination. Health-Related Fitness Components Cardiovascular endurance is the ability to participate using large muscle groups in physical activity for a long period of time at moderate to vigorous levels of intensity. It is the ability of the heart, blood vessels and lungs to deliver nutrients and oxygen to the tissues to provide the energy needed for endurance exercises. In general, one should be able to do an activity for 3 to 5 minutes without stopping and should be able to continue for at least 20 minutes to have a positive effect on cardiovascular endurance.
