4 Course Grading  Course Grading  Mastery System Based on percent of  points earned A = 100% - 90%; B = 89% - 80%, and so on Benefit: All students can earn As if they master the material Cost: Doesn’t consider difficulty or instructor abilities Normative System Based on your  class ranking Students 1-6 get As, 7-18 get Bs, … Cost: Doesn’t allow everyone to score well if everyone learns My System Your percent points determines your  highest grade  (i.e.,  mastery ) I may move you into a higher category (i.e., adjust for  norms )

5 Point Opportunities  Point Opportunities  Exams  (~ 75% Total Grade) There are 3 non-cumulative multiple choice items (~60 items) 50% Book; 50% lecture Some (but not perfect) overlap between the two There are no missed exams ( no kidding ….) Papers and Quizzes (~ 15 % Total Grade) Assigned between 2 and 5 days in advance Address some real world problem Anytime, anywhere, anyday – totally random Address issues from lecture  The good news – quizzes are easy Attendance Its your dime…
