Things fall apart Essay Kia s Okonkwo was one of the most hard working, rich and famous men in his village. He worked very hard for everything he had because his father was a failure in life and Okonkwo wanted to do what his father couldn’t. Okonkwo’s accomplishments and his past made him a psychologically unbalanced person. Okonkwo’s stubbornness and inability to adapt to new situations drove him to lose his son, and his whole life ultimately fell apart as a result of his own impulsive behavior. All of Okonkwo’s life was spent building fortune and fame, and the same characteristics that took him to the top of his world brought him crashing down. Okonkwo is a very stubborn and inflexible man; he follows rules blindly and is unwilling to adapt to new situations. Okonkwo’s stubborn ways made him do things that would lead to his downfall. When the order came from the oracle to kill Ikemefuna, Okonkwo was given a choice to not participate in the boy’s death, “Yes, Umuofia has decided to kill him……But I want you to have nothing to do with it.” (page 50), but he did it anyway. Even though killing Ikemefuna was legally just, it was morally wrong
