Dietary fiber is a nutrient that comes from the cell walls of plants and it is consumed by people to help regulate their digestive system. There are many different sources of dietary fiber, but before you can know what they are you must first understand what the difference is between soluble and insoluble fiber is. Soluble fiber is “soluble” in water. Meaning when you mix it with water it will become a gel like substance. You would consume soluble fiber to help moderate your blood glucose levels and to also help lower your cholesterol. Some sources are oatmeal, barley, legumes, vegetables and fruits. Insoluble fiber is a type of fiber that will not dissolve in water. Meaning when you consume insoluble fiber it will exit you the same way it came into your system. When it comes to children the daily recommendations for fiber intake is fourteen grams per every thousand calories they consume. For adults the recommended intake is ten to thirteen grams for every thousand calories they consume. By reading this article I have learned that there are two forms of dietary fiber, which would be soluble and insoluble.
