Mitosis is the process of the chromosomes dividing. Which, is very important to all living organisms, it is essential that cells go through mitosis so that each new cell contains the same genetic information. Another way to look at the importance of mitosis is if you were to get a cut it would never heal without mitosis because, the skin cells would never grow back. Also, you would not be able to grow at all without mitosis. There are four steps of mitosis, the first one being prophase, which is where chromosomes coil up and become visible. Then, followed by metaphase which is where the chromosomes move towards one another. Then there is anaphase which is where the chromatids are pulled apart and then finally there is Telophase, it’s where a nuclear envelope forms around the chromosomes. An organism would have to undergo mitosis when it comes to growth, sexual reproduction, development and repair.

Keep in mind that Prokaryotes do not go through the process of mitosis, only eukaryotes go through mitosis. • • Meiosis is a form of cell division that halves the number of chromosomes in the gametes. Meiosis is a lot like mitosis just instead of only going through the process once, like mitosis does meiosis goes through the process twice. In results of meiosis males end up with four sperm in the process of spermatogenesis. And, females end up with four eggs although due to being too small and lacking cytoplasm three of the eggs die. This is known as the process oogenesis, it is also very essential that meiosis occurs because without it reproduction would cease, in other words an organism would have to undergo meiosis in order to reproduce....
