Chemistry 177 Course Syllabus Summer 2011 Instructor: Office: Phone: Dr. Irmi Schewe-Miller 0755 Gilman Hall 294-3743 E-Mail: Office Hours: use Blackboard Learn for email TR noon – 1 pm and by appointment WWW Address: Clicker Assistance: Mastering Chemistry On-Line homework: Chem 177 and 177L are corequisite courses, i.e., students in Chem 177 are required to take Chem 177L at the same time or to have already received credit in 177L. Students who drop or audit Chem 177 will be required to drop 177L and vice versa. Deadline to audit or drop Chem 177: Friday, May 21. Lecture: MTWRF 9:50 – 10:50 am in room 1002 Gilman. Attendance at lecture and recitation is required. Quizzes will be given during class using the Turning Point RF Clicker . Deadline for registration of clicker: 5:00 PM Tuesday, May 17 th . Text : Chemistry, The Central Science , Brown, LeMay, Bursten and Murphy (11 th Edition), Prentice Hall, 2005; Turning Point RF Clicker (RFC-03) . Optional : Student Guide and Student Solutions Manual for the textbook and The Cartoon Guide to Chemistry , Gonick and Criddle, Collins, 2005. The text, solutions to all text problems, and a study guide for the final exam are on reserve at the Reserve and Media Services Desk located in 02 Parks Library (lower level). You are expected to read the chapter in the text book before it is covered in class, see the tentative schedule below. Calculator
