Only an inexpensive, nonprogrammable, nonalphanumeric memory storage scientific calculator may be used on the quizzes and exams (with In x, eX, log x, lOx, sin e, cos tan e and yX functions). Programmable calculators will not be allowed during the quizzes and exams. The following materials are optional: A Study Guide and a Student Solutions Manual to accompany the textbook. "Life on the Internet: Chemistry: A Student's Guide", Andrew T. Stull, Prentice Hall. "Interactive Chemistry Journey", a CD ROM, Steven D. Gammon, Prentice Hall. Chem 177 and 177L are corequisite courses, i.e., students in Chem are required to take Chem 177L at the same time or to have already received credit in 177L. If you do not fulfill these requirements, you will not get credit for Chem 177. Students who drop or audit Chem will be required to drop 177L and vice versa. LECTURES AND RECITATION: Lectures are MWF 9:00 a.m., 1:10 p.m .• and 4:10 p.m. in room 1002 Gilman Hall. Students should attend all lectures. Recitation classes meet on Thursday. Quizzes that cover all assigned homework problems and lecture material will be given every recitation meeting except those that fall in the week of an hour exam. Absences in recitation will result in a score of zero for the recitation quiz. There are no make-up quizzes.
