Andrew Means English 1102-03 Plattner 1. Why are oil prices skyrocketing again? a. Once again, the crude oil prices in society are jumping to ridiculous figures. We are on the verge of hitting some all time records as prices have jumped to $92 a barrel and the trend is still growing. The rise in prices are leaving Americans dumbfounded as to why this is a case since we are in the midst recession already. One thing that many Americans do not realize is everything that factors into the price of gas. Not only is the price of crude oil factored in, but you also have distribution, marketing, refining, and taxes. We also are dealing with this deep conflict in Egypt. Egypt itself is not a major oil producer. However, the Suez Canal runs and operates through Egypt. You combine all of those fees and the fact that the Suez Canal is taking slowing the transport of oil, and then you have the skyrocketing of the final retail price in gasoline. 2.
