ORGANIZATIONAL TECHNOLOGY PLAN-PART 1 2 The organizational technology plan for academic team B will address the organizational technology of American Woodmark. The organizational technology plan is a multi part assessment of American Woodmark’s organizational technology. This week’s assessment of American Woodmark’s organizational technology plan will cover three areas; the first area is an overview of the company. The second area of the assessment will cover the current technology in use by American Woodmark and the third area of the assessment will be a value chain analysis of American Woodmark. Overview American Woodmark is a national manufacturer of cabinetry, primarily kitchen and bathroom cabinetry but the company does also manufacture numerous ancillary cabinetries. American Woodmark has 30 years of experience in the cabinet industry manufacturing several styles of cabinetry with numerous woods and finish options. American Woodmark sells its cabinetry through many outlets these include the major home centers of Home Depot and Lowes, major national homebuilders, individual distributors, and dealers. American Woodmark’s products are also available through its American Woodmark website or through numerous joint venture websites with the aforementioned companies and business entities. American Woodmark has manufacturing and distribution centers throughout the United States. American Woodmark receives orders dependent on geographical location to the manufacturing facility. The orders processing from Florida would go to the Georgia manufacturing plant for assembly and distribution. The corporate headquarters of American Woodmark is in Winchester, West Virginia. Forbes Magazine names American Woodmark as one of the best small companies on Forbes' 200 Best Small Companies List (Forbes Magazine,

ORGANIZATIONAL TECHNOLOGY PLAN-PART 1 3 2001, 2002, and 2003), and Businessweek also names American Woodmark on its Businessweek's 100 Hot Growth Companies (Businessweek, 2002). Current Technology Assessment American Woodmark uses technology throughout the entire organization from the use of technology in its manufacturing plants all the way to the end users ability to check on the status of his or her cabinet order. The use of technology in manufacturing products is not new; the process of manufacturing using technology provides increases in productivity. The use of technology in manufacturing involves several areas, such as the design of the product, the design of the work area, the design of the manufacturing facility, computer network control (CNC) machinery, automated inventory control, computerized ordering, shipping, and receiving, and any other process that one could think of where computerization would work.
