MODULE 2 UNIT 3 Assignment Part D 1. Explain in your own words why it’s so important that the water molecules is bent? It is important that water molecules be bent so that they maintain some type of polarity. Because water molecules maintain polarity, they form strong attractions with each other. One side of the water molecule is a positive charge, and the other side is a negative charge, and opposite charges attract. If the water molecule were not bent, there would be no polarity, and consequently no attraction to each other. Water would only exist as vapour, and not as a liquid.

Unformatted text preview: 4 marks 2. What molecular property do gases have in common? They form non polar bonds, and therefore do not have strong attractions to one another, accounting for their gaseous state. 2 marks 3. Why do certain non-polar molecules form liquids at an ambient temperature while others form gases? Has to do with the size of the molecules. The larger the molecule, the heavier they are and the less easily they vaporize even if they are non-polar. 2 marks Total 8 marks Submission Instructions Submit your assignment using the drop box on the Assignment page for this unit....
