Armando Gomez-Farias M. Ramirez ENG 1301 16 Nov. 2009 Jornal 5 A Society Revolved Around Physical Beauty We live in a society dominated by images. Fashion and looks have become one of the most important social aspects of our lives. Media has created an obsession of having a so-called “perfect body”. Media uses marketing strategies to control our mind and create a fixation towards our body image. This obsession media has formed in the society has created a series of diseases. In our time it has become somewhat normal for teenage girls to have eating disorders, and some even diseases like anorexia and bulimia. These diseases and eating disorders have ultimately reached both genders and all ethnicities around the world. The importance physical beauty that culture is now teaching our society has changed our lifestyle. Extreme obesity is a problem we see more often in our society each day. Gawande, who attended Harvard Medical School, wrote an essay in July 2001 about extreme obesity and the methods to fight it. Gawande bases most of his essay in the
