APPLICATION: Assessing the Potential Risk of Earthquakes, Volcanoes, and Tsunamis Certain areas are at a higher risk for earthquakes, volcanoes, or tsunamis. What is the risk of an earthquake, volcano, or tsunami in your area? Have you experienced one before? As you have learned, where an area lies on a plate determines its susceptibility to these natural phenomena. In the Discussion for this week, you explored the relationship between plate tectonics and mountains. In this Application, you will continue exploring the effects of plate tectonics on our planet and your local area. Questions about this assignment? Post them in the Ask the Instructor area under Course Home. That way, everyone in the class will see, and benefit from, the Instructor's response. To prepare for this Application: Review the readings, Web sites, and animations on earthquake risks, tsunamis, and volcanic hot spots. Consider the potential risks of these occurring in your local area.
