Allison Morrow 101-3AA October 26, 2009 Short Writing #6 Zisneer’s thesis states that the main pressures working on college students today are very harmful to the individuals themselves and society. Each pressure seems to work against one another making it almost impossible to deal with these pressures. On a social level, the examples Zisneer gives states that being too concerned with one area makes it difficult to get job, which also puts the ultimate economy under pressure. College pressures are extremely harmful for many reasons according to Zinsser. For one reason, the economic pressure to pay for the education is very destructive for students; instead of doing something the student would clearly enjoy, they force themselves to pick an area like pre-law or pre-med in order to make-sure they have a source of income that is very high when they graduate. Also, students also are forced to work part-time jobs in order pay the cost of education and to pay off the loans they had to get in order to go to college.
