In the first essay, the writer is former President George Bush relaying his message of preemptive first strike to the graduates of the military school West Point. He stands for going to war on the basis of promoting freedom and justice, which to him are values of American citizens. Because at that time he was President of the United States, he would be an authority on American values. I would not trust this writer because in this speech, he’s speaking directly to an audience who is already driven conservatively and he is speaking to influence them. In the second essay, Richard Falk, critiques George Bush’s speech. He can talk about this subject because he is a professor of international law and policy at Princeton University along with being a part of the Nuclear Peace Foundation, and he would be very knowledgeable. This writer would be a little easier to trust because his credentials are in the area of policy which gives him the authority to talk on the subject, but he will still be biased based on the programs he chairs. George Bush’s evidence is spread throughout the essay using different examples
