EXECUTIVE SUMMARY A team of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville School of Business (SIUE-SOB) administrators was interested in exploring SIUE-SOB undergraduate students’ perceptions of career preparedness; and, a team of Master of Marketing Research (MMR) students pursued this opportunity to develop and execute this investigation in the form of an exploratory focus group study. The purpose of this research was to explore perceptions of career preparedness as held by SIUE- SOB undergraduate seniors; the subsequent objectives of this study were as follows: 1) To explore students’ interactions and experiences with the faculty and advisory staff, and the perceived effect of such interaction on preparing students for business careers. 2) To explore students’ practical experiences and the perceived effect of such experiences on preparing students for business careers. 3) To explore students’ opportunities to exercise the social component of the business world, and the perceived effect of these opportunities on preparing students for business careers. 4) To explore students’ ability to articulate their skills through résumés and job interviews, and the perceived effect of this ability on preparing students for business careers.
