Mark McGwire and Steroids In this paper, I will discuss the article is Sports Illustrated about Mark McGwire and steroids. In addition, this paper will talk about the theories involved. Finally, I will discuss what my thoughts are on the issue. In this story written by Ann Killion, “After all these years, McGwire and La Russa still don’t get it” (Killion, 2010), Ann discusses how Mark McGwire doesn’t understand that America knows exactly what these players did and why they did it. Mark, in his apology, explains that he only did steroids for health reasons and to keep him healthy, and La Russa basically agrees with him. “It's a little stunning that after all these years of waiting, after all these years he had to prepare for this moment that McGwire -- and his chief apologist, Tony La Russa, -- botched the admission. McGwire's stance is that he only took steroids for his health not for strength. That he firmly believes that he would have hit the same number of home runs without performance enhancing drugs. That he doesn't view his numbers as a product of cheating. Oh
