2 Bus 150 IP 1 Introduction The report is going to explain the difference between lobbying and bribery. It is also going to cover what argument the SLOC members could make that the payments made do not fit the definition of an illegal bribe according the FCP. Also my opinion of the appropriate punishment for the violation of ethical and legal principles and if the remedies should be limited to the expulsion of the members who violated those principles or if the entire community should be held responsible for the actions that took place in the 2002 Winter Olympics. Salt Lake City and the state of Utah used lobbying and bribery to persuade the IOC to select Salt Lake City as the 2002 Winter Olympics site. There were several allegations that the members of the SLOC used these methods my making gifts to certain influential IOC members and their families. There were reported cases of free medical as well as scholarships that values over hundreds of thousands of dollars and there is a limit to what a gift that is given should be
