1 ME136L MATERIALS PROCESSING LAB SYLLABUS AND GENERAL INFORMATION SPRING 2010 Instructor D. Bourell [email protected] ETC 9.182 Prerequisites The prerequisites for this course are EM319 and ME111L, both with a grade of at least a C, concurrent enrollment in ME336, and admission to an appropriate major sequence in Engineering. If you have not met all of these prerequisites, you will be dropped from the course. Office Hours Your Teaching Assistant will schedule weekly office hours and should be your recourse for any questions/problems that you have. If you have a dispute or problem that cannot be resolved by your teaching assistant, you may come to my office hours or email me to set up an appointment ([email protected]). Laboratory Attendance Policy You are required to arrive promptly at your assigned section of laboratory during weeks when the lab is scheduled. You will be penalized for tardiness or for any unexcused absences (see below). If you cannot attend the laboratory or a quiz for a valid reason, notify your lab instructor before the lab or quiz. Messages may be phoned to the office at 475-9743 if an instructor cannot be notified directly. When possible, students who have missed class and have a valid excuse will be expected to do make- up work. Documentation must be provided for any excused absence within one week of the absence. See the student handbook, available from the Registrar’s website, for more information on what constitutes an excused absence. If you miss a laboratory section meeting and you do not have a valid excuse, you will receive a 20% penalty for the group/individual task portion of your grade for the ENTIRE lab unit grade corresponding to your absence for the first unexcused absence. Subsequent absences will result in a grade of zero for the ENTIRE lab unit grade corresponding to your absence. If you miss an exam and you do not have a valid excuse, you will receive a 20% penalty for the first unexcused absence. Subsequent absences will result in a zero for the exam corresponding to your absence. SINCE ALL OF THE LABORATORY EXPERIMENTS ARE GROUP PROJECTS, LABS CANNOT BE RESCHEDULED. PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF THE TIMES/DATES FOR THE 4 QUIZZES AND ALL OF YOUR LABORATORY SECTION MEETING TIMES SO THAT YOU DO NOT HAVE PERSONAL OR WORK-RELATED SCHEDULE CONFLICTS. DO NOT SCHEDULE JOB INTERVIEWS AT THE SAME TIME AS YOUR LAB. IF THERE IS AN UNAVOIDABLE CONFLICT WITH AN INTERVIEW, PLEASE TALK TO MICHAEL POWELL IN THE ENGINEERING CAREER CENTER ABOUT ALTERNATIVE ARRANGEMENTS FOR
