John Bieler Professor Love Psychology of Human Sexuality 9/5/07 The Myth about Lesbians Growing up I was told by my two older brothers that all lesbians were butch, masculine and hated men. My brothers are much older than I am. As a youngster, I was very curious and asked them a lot of questions about sexuality. For the most part they told me the truth, however when it came to lesbians they became immature. The topic came about one summer day when we took a family trip to Providence Town, Massachusetts. Providence Town is well known for its street entertainment and gay population. While we walked along the streets, enjoying the atmosphere, we encountered many jaw dropping sights. Two women with short haircuts, big muscles and dressed in men’s clothes were walking down the streets holding hands. When I asked my brothers, why two women were holding hands? They answered “because they were lesbians.” This started my belief that all lesbians were like those two women that I saw on the street. I had believed them because those were the only lesbian woman I had ever
