John Bieler SPD 126 2/11/08 1. I am proud to say that I have a lot of positive influences, or uppers, in my life. Over the past couple of years specifically I have really appreciated these uppers influence. My mother, for example, I consider an upper for her constant approval and confidence in me. Over the past couple of years I have been working very hard to get back in a 4 year university. My mom has been there with me giving me confidence about my search. My mom is always the first person I go to when I received good grades, because I know she will be proud and happy for me. For her to be proud of me makes me feel even that much better, so that is why I consider my mom an upper. 2. The first thing that comes to mind when I think about a downer is a friend from high school. As a downer, my friend would be a pessimist. Although he was a downer and pessimist, I would not go as far as to consider him a vulture because he was still my friend too. He did certain things like bring other people down and
