Insoluble Test: Black: CuO, CuS, Ag 2 O, Ag 2 S Blue: CuCO 3 Dark Green: Ag 2 CO 3 White: AgCl, Ag 2 SO 4 , Ca(OH) 2 , Mg(OH) 2 , CaCO 3 , CaSO 4 *2H 2 O Soluble Test: Anions: Cl-: Add 2-3 drops of 6M HNO 3 to sample solution until acidic (test with Blue litmus). Add a few drops of 0.02M AgNO 3 . If a precipitate forms, Cl-present. SO 4 2-: Add 2-3 drops of 6M HNO 3 to sample solution until acidic (test with Blue litmus). Add a few drops of 0.25M Ba(NO 3 ) 2 . If precipitate, SO 4 2-present. Use pH to differentiate. NO 3-: Place Ferrous Ammonium Sulfate crystal into spot plate. Cover with solution then 18M H 2 SO 4 . If crystal turns brown, NO 3-present....
