2 MANAGERIAL SKILLS Managers and supervisors within different businesses and organizations in today’s global economy, encompass a wide set of skills needed to accomplish tasks and achieve company goals. It is important for managers and supervisors to know and understand what skills they have, and what skills need to be developed. In the changing global economy and competitive market it is important for managers and supervisors to be able to learn and grow to adapt to this changing business environment. The goal of this Session Long Project (SLP) is to identify personal managerial strengths and weaknesses with use of a skills assessment tool by Alan Chapman called the Management Skill Set Assessment. To accomplish this assessment I first rated myself honestly on each of the 22 skills listed. After I had finished analyzing each of the categories and rating myself accordingly, I sent an email to my supervisor and asked him to look it over. I further asked my supervisor to perform an assessment on me using the Management Skill Set Assessment tool that I had sent him. He was asked to rate me in the same 22 skills and write in his assessment in the 2 nd View column of the assessment. After he was finished, my supervisor sent me an email containing his completed assessment. I replied to his email and asked to meet with him to discuss the responses and results of the managerial assessment tool. We went over each of the 22 skills and explained to each other why we rated each skill the way we did. As we discussed this information for each skill set, my supervisor and I rated the importance of each ability and managerial behavior as it pertains to the job function we serve.
