Health and Safety Management Career Case Study I. Statement of Professional Goals To begin this case study of the health and safety management career, it is necessary to examine my personal professional goals. This will help to identify any inconsistencies in my professional goals and the health and safety management field. In order to evaluate my professional goals, there are several areas that will be examined including career goals, financial goals, family goals, community goals, leisure goals, and goals for self. My career goals include a short term goal, a mid term goal, and a long term goal. The short term goal I have set for myself is to finally graduate from Indiana State University (ISU) with a bachelor’s degree. I have changed my major several times within my six year educational experience at ISU and I am happy that I have found a field of study that I enjoy doing and can make good money doing it. The mid term goal I have set for myself is to obtain my certification as a safety professional, or CSP. This requires at least two years experience as a safety professional and a written exam. I hope to achieve this goal within three or four years upon graduation. I have set a long term goal for myself to continue my education and obtain my master’s degree. I would like to find a company to work for who would allow me to take classes online, or take a few classes here and there, to get a master’s degree in safety management. I know that I will have a lot learning to do as a new safety professional, so I am not going to push myself too hard after nine years of college directly out of high school, but I want to eventually get a master’s degree.

The financial goals that I have set for myself also include a short, mid, and long term goal. The short term financial goal that I have set for myself is to start a savings account. I would like to begin putting money in the savings account to help in a time of need. If for some reason I lost my job, I want some extra cash stashed away that I know will be there at my disposal when I need it. The mid term goal that I have set for myself is to pay off my truck, my wife’s new car, and some other bills that my wife and I have lingering over our heads. I also want to pay off my education loans as soon as I possible. The long term financial goal that I have set for myself is to build a house and have enough money to pay my children’s education so that they don’t have to worry about paying for it, like I do. I have also set long, mid, and short term goals for my family goals. The short term goal is to get a job and move away with my new wife of six months. My wife and I both are looking forward to moving to a new part of the country together. I have set a mid term goal to eventually move closer to home, the Marshall, Terre Haute area. I would like to find a job closer to home and begin having children with their grandparents closer and
