Allison Morrow Lab Homework 3 2/2/2010 Pg. 52 1) How did the foraging times for the foragers from plot 1 (fresh patch) compare/contrast the foraging times for the foragers from a foraged patch? How are foragers influenced by a diminished food supply (in both cases)? *The times for plot one was much shorter than the second one. The food was easier to find when there wasn’t any competition. Foragers are influenced in the first case because they find it difficult to find food, but in the second test, finding food is even more difficult because there is now competition. That makes the dismissed food supply decrease even more. 2) In what situations would you expect the population of foragers to go extinct? In what situations would you expect the food source to become depleted? *Foragers would become extinct if more competition for the food sources becomes available or when more predators overcome the foragers. Situations where food sources would become depleted would include situations of drought, overpopulation of both
