University of Toronto at Scarborough MGTA03 – Introduction to Management I Fall 2009 - Summary Course Outline Course Overview This course serves as an introduction to business, the role of businesses in the Canadian economy, and the management of businesses. The course begins with an overview of Canadian businesses and the environments in which managers of businesses must work: the economic environment, the entrepreneurial environment and the global environment. The course then considers the role of managers and the process of management, including planning and organizing the resources of the firm, with a particular emphasis on motivating and leading the human resources. Lecture LEC01 - Mondays 10 a.m. - 12 noon Times: LEC02 - Tuesdays 2 - 4 p.m. LEC03 - Thursdays 8 - 10 a.m. Faculty Chris Bovaird [email protected] Office: MW – 232 Info: Hugh Laurence [email protected] Office: MW – 224 Faculty Either Professor will be available to meet with, assist or advise students Office only during those weeks in which they are scheduled to lecture. While attendance is optional, it is strongly encouraged. The test is designed to give you early feedback on your understanding of the initial course material, and to give you practice for the mid-term test which will follow 2-3 weeks later. The test will be followed, during the second hour of class, with the usual lecture. If you do not write the in-class test, its weight (12.5%) will be added to the final examination. Mid-Term and Examination Attendance The Mid-Term Test is NOT OPTIONAL .
