Comptia A+ (220-701) Study Guide Section 3 A+ Managing and Maintaining Your PC Mother Boards and Power Supplies - All motherboards have a chipset. - Most chipset are made up of two chips called northbridge and southbridge. - The northbridge chip communicates with fast devices (RAM, video). - The southbridge chip communicates with slower devices. - The Super I/O chip communicates with legacy (old) devices such as floppy drives and serial ports. - In new systems the northbridge chip has been eliminated. - There are 2 form factors for motherboards: ATX and BTX. ATX is the most common. - How do you fix a bad motherboard? Answer: Replace it.
