The Pardoner’s Tale 1. The Pardoner openly admits to the fact that he preaches out of sheer greed. He makes it known that money is the only desire at the core of his heart, he couldn’t care less about the true nature of his occupation. He intentionally sins fully aware of his own corruption, to the point that it seems as if he enjoys being a religious fraud. 3/3 Good answer. 2. The three rioters are the true embodiment of treachery. We learn that they are sworn upon sin, always cursing God’s name. They lived gluttonous lives drinking and reveling all day, without any temptation for all they sought was a pleasure. 2.5/3 3. The men are informed by one of the bar’s servants that an old friend of theirs had been slain that night, by a shadowy figure known as “Death”. Enraged and in their drunkenness, the men irrationally decide to hunt down Death as brothers in arms, as if Death were a person. They want to avenge their friend’s death and avoid dying themselves. 1.5/2 4.
