[email protected] Abstract- Intense competition is forcing companies to develop innovative strategies to capture customer needs and improve customer satisfaction in the external business environment. Performance appraisal and employee satisfaction is high on the agenda of many companies around the world and with the growing number of improvement models now available. Employee care has to be taken to adopt an approach that will yield the modest attractive return on investment in an internal business environment. Employee performance appraisal is a subject of great interest in most organizations. This is because performance appraisal decisions have effects and consequences on workers’ compensation and recognition. To deal with this performance appraisal business process, the authors proposed a Decision Support System (DSS) which consists of a mathematical model to evaluate the performance appraisal for individual and for departments in an organization. The findings of this paper provide important direction for the development of employee relation in an organization. Keywords: Decision Support System, Performance appraisal, Performance model, Total composite score, and Decision making. I. INTRODUCTION It is said that this is the age of extreme competition in which the combined pressures of global competition, technology, interconnectivity and economic liberalization make life for organizations tougher than ever before [1]. As it is the task of every manager to realize the goals of the organization by achieving outstanding performance in the unit they are responsible for, they are under great strain to deal effectively with these pressures. The performance appraisal is also important as a management tool to assess employees’ efficiency in the workplace [2]. Consequently, employees are considered as a strategic asset for the organization, and could determine the organization’s survival [3]. However, [4] claimed that money could influence the workers motivation, and also act as an incentive for workers to be loyal to their organization. Due to this, it is important for organizations to take care of their workers’ income and welfare. Performance appraisal is also being seen as having direct influence on job satisfaction and motivation of workers.
