(CT underlying epiderms) Gives elasticity but gets lost as one ages (reason for wrinkles & lose of focus on the eye) Superficial --> loose CT and rich is reticular fiber, collagen type 1 & elastic fiber Dermal papillae (finger like extensions). There is seal of epidermis & finger like extensions that surface it. Need to withstand generate more friction between dermis & epidermis. Therefore, body increases the surface area of the hick skin and create "folds" in interface . There will be papilla overlapping with gross-fold <-- "ridges". <-- i.e. palms of hand (thick skin folding) <-- more deep to papillary layer Rich collagen type I & less GS (Less malleable --> less stretch) BV present that feeds into papillary layer New Section 1 Page 11
