Linh Bui 1. a. Education in the Constitution: The Federal Government has no constitutional jurisdiction over education. We call for abolition of the U.S.Department of Education and prohibition of transfer of any of its functions to any other agency. Texas Democrats believe quality public education is essential to American democracy and economic opportunity, recognizing that a free public education provides all Texans a real opportunity to achieve their potential. All children should be able to attend a safe, secure school and have access to an exemplary educational program that meets their needs and abilities. All school districts must be adequately and 100% equitably funded. All Texans should have access to affordable, quality higher education and career education programs. b. Marriage: We believe in the sanctity of marriage and that the integrity of this institution should be protected at all levels of government. We urge the Legislature to rescind no–fault divorce laws. We support Covenant Marriage. Marriage Licenses - We support legislation that would make it a felony to issue a marriage license to a same-sex couple and for any civil official to perform a marriage ceremony for such. c.
