Approaches to Motivation and Emotions There are five different approaches to motivation. In this essay I will explain how each approach affects motivation. I will list the five main emotions. I will choose one positive and one negative emotion related to being a student. I will give one example of how these emotions may affect my performance in class. Finally I will identify which approach to motivation can help me overcome the challenges associated with these emotions. Before I explain the different approaches I first must explain Motivation which states The factors that direct and energize the behavior of humans and other organisms. The first approach is instinct. According to instinct approaches to motivation, people and animals are born preprogrammed with sets of behaviors essential to their survival. The next approach is drive-reduction. Drive-reduction approaches to motivation suggest that a lack of some basic biological requirement such as water produces a drive to obtain that requirement. The next approach is arousal.
