Rosa Ringwald SOC 220 May 17, 2020 Professor Williams Social Problem Drug/Alcohol Abuse Final Essay Social problems arise from a dominant group of people or individuals identify a condition that is threatening its values, the condition will affect a large number of the population and the issue can be solved by a collective action (Sullivan, 2016). The social problems in the United States are drug, abuse, alcohol, poverty, child or adult abuse, human sex trafficking and many other social issues. Drug and alcohol abuse in the United States is on the rise and has become a social phenomenon and this aligns with the theoretical perspective and some solutions that could lower the rate. Drug and alcohol abuse the social problem that is destructive and affects the individual, family, and a community. When a person begins to abuse drugs or alcohol, society labels and treats these individual bad. Crime committed by people who abuse these drugs starts to harm the people and everyone around them and their community and becomes a social issue that is detrimental to society. During this course I have learned that the social issues of drug abuse is a social deviance that affect the most vulnerable population. The micro level social deviance perpetrates drug and alcohol abuse from generation to generation and this could become the normal for a person because of that is what he or she are exposed too.
