Intercultural Dialogues Project Communication 1109 – Valerie Jersey – Fall Semester 2009 A collaboration with International Student Retention Services - Kennesaw State University The Intercultural Dialogues Project is scheduled in recognition of International Education Week – The dates for IEW 2009 are November 16th - 20th. For more information: http://iew.state.gov/ Project Background/Purpose As stated on your course syllbabus, Kennesaw State University is committed to a Quality Enhancement Plan that states: “Global Learning for Engaged Citizenship is an educational process that enhances one's competencies for participating productively and responsibly in the diverse, international, intercultural, and interdependent world." KSU’s Global Learning Outcomes The student learning outcomes pertaining to global learning that KSU’s QEP is designed to promote and advance are as follows: Global Perspectives (Knowledge) - Graduating students recognize and incorporate the diversity, commonalities, andinterdependence of the world’s people, nations, and/or environmental systems into theirgeneral knowledge, academic specializations and worldviews. Intercultural Engagement (Skills) - Graduating students demonstrate effective and appropriate communication, interaction and teamwork with people of different nationalities and cultures, either locally or internationally. Global Citizenship (Attitudes) - Graduating students demonstrate respect and support for the common good of the world community, including its diversity, attention to human rights, concern for the welfare ofothers, and sustainability of natural systems and species.

Specific Learning Objectives of Communication 1109 Intercultural Dialogues Project - To increase awareness of person’s from other cultures through group and individual dialogues. - To decrease attitudes of ethnocentrism and stereotypes through interpersonal interactions with persons from other cultures and co-cultures. - To increase competence in cross-cultural communication through participation in programs introducing other cultural perspectives, panel discussions, forums and individual interviews. - To enhance individual interviewing skills through development of open-ended interview questions and participation in one on one interviews. - To enhance appreciation of different cultures through active participation in other cultures and co-cultures customs, traditions, beliefs,meals and celebrations. - To increase awareness and knowledge of intercultural differences in organizations; business and academic.
