Blake Cordell and Todd Handell Cordell 1 Mr. Bennet Chemistry I 02/12/08 Calorimetry; taking boring to a new sig. fig! Introduction - In chemistry there are many lab experiments which are used to determine many things. One of the experiments is used to determine what a certain metal is by determining the metals specific heat. To determine a metals specific heat a person must use a hot plate to heat water so the temperature of the metal can be determined. Then using a Calorimeter the experimenter can determine how the metals are different by how much they change the temperature of the water in the Calorimeter. The purpose of the lab was to determine the specific heat of 4 metals and then determine which metal each were. The evidence concluded that the four metals were titanium, tungsten, brass, and silver. Materials- 1) 4 cylinders of metal, 2) Tongs, 3) 600Ml beaker, 4) Thermometer, 5) Coffee cup calorimeter, 6) Hot plate, 7) Mass scale, 8) Water.
