Facebook’s success can be credited to Web 2.0 technologies, network effects and their Application Programming Interfaces (APIs). However as recent events have proven that these three are also a ‘double-edged sword’ for Facebook. Discuss. Answer The ongoing trends in technology. innovation, new methods, network efficiency, and more has not spared Facebook from realizing success. Integration of Web 2.0 technologies by Facebook and its Interactive API has increased the value of Facebook from just a social network but to business and academic platforms which has seen an exponential increase in the number of Facebook subscribers. The resultant network effects created more value and utility progressively translating into high profits. However, these improvements came with negative impacts to Facebook; web 2.0 technologies increased competition and consumers are now able to find more value information from other sources easily and cheaply than from Facebook Good examples include the recent developments on WhatsApp, Instagram, telegram, Zoom meeting app, and Linked which have effectively replaced Facebook through more user friendly APIs, specialized interfaces and more services such as voice calling. Facebook(s API developments has effectively promoted people and businesses to perform various a tasks such as managing ads, posting new stories to the news feed, publish activities, uploading photos, managing online lessons, playing various games online, push through marketing campaigns through event ads, fetching information through programmable queries and more. This has led to the increase in the number of subscribers to the social platform and led to the growth of its network and positively impacted its success. Web 2.0 technologies have necessitated various activities such video sharing something that has attracted many music and film artists and prominent preachers across the globe to the platform. There are also technologies like sweet and gifts whereby people can gift their loved one’s flowers, kisses and more. User profiles, ability to create pages and groups, marketing class fields, and more technologies integrated has enabled a higher social interaction and drove

the success of Facebook high through a very extensive social network as more and more people subscribe daily. However, these developments had exposed Facebook to immense competition which has resulted in the drop in active subscribers. Recently twitter, linked inn, Instagram, telegram, blog sites, and yahoo overtook Facebook.
