Tyler Connally Mr. Bliman January 22, 2010 Final essay W English 102 Keeping the drinking age Why is Twenty-one the “magical” number that determines when a person has reached their first real stage of maturity? For quite some time there has been an ongoing controversial issue in lowering the drinking age to eighteen. Regardless of people under the age of twenty-o9ne, people still find ways to drink illegally. Ie: having fake identification, asking older friends to purchase the alcohol, parents contributing, etc. the drinking age should not be lowered to eighteen. The drinking age should not be lowered for multiple reasons. The first reason and the most detrimental reason is that the amount of car accidents that happen due to underage drinking result in deaths. According to an excerpt out of an article titled, “Teens, Alcohol a deadly mix, don’t ignore it,” explains how there was “estimated 5000 deaths,” that ultimate were related to underage drinking. The article furthermore explains, how drinking and driving under age is not only the major cause of death but so is Drowning and alcohol poisoning.” Younger people do not
