Tyler Connally Ethics Paper 3 June 5, 2011 Ethics and Addiction Ethics Paper 3 In going through this course, we have discussed many interesting issues pertaining to ethical dilemmas and welfare of clients. In completing this paper, I felt that the issue that I was most interested in was the confidentiality issue. On page 179 in “Issues and Ethics in the Helping Profession,” the author explains how all clients going into any type of counseling should be educated and informed of information pertaining to “confidentiality, privileged communication and privacy”. All counselors in the profession should be aware of the clause that expresses that the clients have the right to know “any limitations of confidentiality from the outset” (171). With the clients knowing and understanding this clause it helps give them and their counselor a sense of trust, which ultimately helps form a foundation of openness, allowing the client to feel more comfortable with the counselor.
