Tyler Connally April 27, 2011 Ethics Paper 1 Paper 1 In reading Chapter two of the Issues and Ethics in the Helping Professions book ; by Gerald Corey, Marianne Schneider Corey and Patrick Callanan - the transference and countertransference topic intrigued me the most. I felt that it hit home and that I can relate. For example with the transference issues, the case study about Shirley reminds me of myself and my friends. My client Olivia loves outside help to validate her every move. Her current situation with her boyfriend is troubling her. She comes to see me to get an understanding of how I interact with my male counterpart. She further asks me how I would go about addressing a serious issue I had to him. Being a counselor and an adult, I just simply explained to her that my male friend and I have been together a long time and that it’s really not difficult for us to tell each other anything. She explained to me how any time she brings something up to her boyfriend they usually end up in a huge argument, very similar to Shirley situation [poor outcome]. I further explained that maybe it’s her tone and how she addresses the issues or maybe the issues she is bringing to his attention are extremely minuet. Ultimately, Olivia is looking for me to give
