Caleb Jones Lab Partner: Tripp Ferrence Soda Lab 1. Experimental Procedure. The acid concentration of the solutions of KHP (C 8 H 5 O 4 K) and soda can be de- termined by the following procedure. First to find the acid concentration of KHP around 1.021g of it must be dissolved in 50mL of water in an Erlenmey- er flask. Fill a 50mL buret with NaOH (aq) . A couple of drops of phen- olphthalein should be added to each flask. Slowly add NaOH (aq) until the KHP solution turns pink, repeat this until desired precision is obtained. Next, measure 15mL of soda and heat until the carbonation is gone. Replace the lost water from heating. Repeat the steps taken for the KHP with the soda, adding phenolphthalein and the NaOH (aq) just as before and repeat until de- sired precision is obtained. 2. Conceptual Basis for Calculation.
