What is Prevention? Keeping a problem or disease from occurring Examples of areas of prevention: Disease prevention (vaccinations, promotion of condoms to prevent transmission of STDs) Prevention of “problem” behaviors (violence, alcohol and drug use, child maltreatment) Prevention of mental health problems (depression, anxiety disorders, schizophrenia)
