2/10/11 o Nictitating membrane so can still see when go in water because of refraction o Some will have two lens for above and below water for refracting state problem o 8%-43% amount of ppl who wear glasses o Perfectly shaped eye fits the cornea and crystal lens perfectly o Squeezing of eye to see screens and reading lengthening eye o Hypermetropic - axial length is too short o Myopic - axial length long o Emmetropic - perfect o Pinhole camera- w/o a lens and looks through a pinhole to have right axel length o Cornea can be misshaped- light won’t be focused but distorted – stigmatism o Must replace cornea if really distorted- cut cornea and take if off o Flattened own cornea or transplant o Treatments of Myopia o Radial keratotomy- cut incisions in the eye that flattens eye o Bounce light off retina to get axial length to know how much to flatten then laser procedure Cut outer portion of cornea to reduce pain because a lot of pain receptors Then, laser off middle section o Retinas degrade hours after death
