Working in the School Setting
In the field of behavior analysis, we work in many different environments. It is

important that we know what is expected of us in these environments and how to work
well with others in different roles. Currently, I work as a behavior technician and mostly
work in-home so I do not have the experience of working in a school. So doing my own
research is going to be crucial to successfully working in the school setting. I have to
understand that working in a school will include collaborating with many other
personalities. Being aware of my personality style will also be helpful to effectively
communicate with others in the collaborative environment. As a BCBA, my role can be
different depending on where I was hired. I could be working from the district of the
school or working through an agency. Although my responsibility is the same, I may
have different ways of being able to perform my role and either could limit/extend
resources from within the school. I must be aware and be prepared for any of these
different aspects that effect my role before going into the school setting.
Preparing to Enter the School
I can enter the school through many different avenues. The school could have
hired me directly or I could be from an outside agency coming into the school. I must
consider the roles of the the educators as well as others involved in the collaboration.
