Roshni Sheth Dr. Zahariadis November 3, 2010 PSC 103 Extra Credit Reaction Paper On November 3, 2010, I attended a lecture by Dr. Erik Angner on the topic of Sweden. Dr. Angner is a native of Sweden, and he gave information comparing certain systems and policies in Sweden with those systems and policies in the United States. Before beginning, he gave a little background information and explained that Sweden emerged as a country about 1000 to 1200 years ago. Also, about 100 years ago, Sweden was a relatively poor nation, and many Swedes immigrated to the Unites States and other nations. Thereafter, Dr. Angner classified the two contrasting societies of the United States and Sweden. The United States is a frontier or pioneer society. This means that our society focuses on the individual pushes his or her own boundaries, or “pushing the frontier.” Sweden is a limited land mass, so literally and theoretically, Swedes have not had the same opportunities as Americans have had to “push the frontier,” so Swedes have developed ways of collaborating
