The goal of the film is to create a satire of the American political system. The director is trying to show how easy it is for someone to become a politician based on their image, rather than their views on important issues. 2. What ethical argument may refute the message? Why? An ethical argument that may refute the message is that Bob Roberts’s character is a Conservative, and the audience could take that as a criticism of Republican politics instead of a criticism of the entire political system. Although it is not explicitly stated that Roberts is a Republican, the advertisement of his opponent states that he is a Democrat, making Roberts a Republican by default. 3. Briefly describe the plot of the film. Bob Roberts, a country artist, is running for Senate, and a documentary is being made about his campaign. Roberts sings about people who are on drugs and lazy, and he wants to take America
