NAME: Roshni Sheth FILM: Dr. Strangelove 1. What is the goal of the film? What do you believe are the director’s motives and what is the message he/she is sending? The goal of the film is to create a satire of Cold War politicians and exaggerate to show just how ridiculous the arms race became. Kubrick wants the American people to see that the Cold War scare was grandly blown out of proportions in the 1950’s. 2. What ethical argument may refute the message? Why? An ethical argument that may refute the message is that the film is so exaggerated. In the way, the film suggests that there was no real threat, and that the scare was just created by the governments of the United States and the Soviet Union. While this is arguable, it could be said that both governments were just taking necessary precautions to protect their people. 3. Briefly describe the plot of the film. This film shows the consequences of American General Jack Ripper’s implementation of plan R, which allows him to order a nuclear attack on the Soviet Union without the president’s consent. General Ripper’s second in command General Mandrake questions these orders, but no one is
